Over-the-top funnyman Ben Stiller strides away from his comfort zone with his leading role in Baumbach’s dark dramedy Greenberg. A tale of the neurotic Roger Greenberg left to housesit for his vacationing brother reluctantly falls for the assistant Florence leaves us with an interesting multifaceted approach to a seemingly simple story. With a realistic approach to dialogue and situations stemming from their exchange Baumbach explores what it means to define one’s self today. Stiller’s commanding performance alongside a venerable cast of unknowns bring the serious tone of Greenberg full circle to leave a lasting impression in at least my mind.
