These Are Not The Blu-rays You're Looking For: Reasons NOT to Buy Star Wars on Blu-ray

Anyone who claims to be a fan of Star Wars whether they are the diehard or casual breed have been anticipating the release of Star Wars: The Complete Saga on blu-ray ever since blu-ray even became an option. Sadly those same diehard fans are the ones let down as George Lucas once again gives us plenty of reasons not to repurchase the classic trilogy.

Reason IV: A New Cut - It is no secret that George Lucas views his films as a work in progress. As Star Wars has been released, and rereleased over the past few decades each release has seen some for of alteration from the original film. These revisions have come in the form of anything from additional scenes, altered audio, changed dialogue, or computer generated alterations. The blu-ray release of the complete saga unfortunately will only see more of this trend. More characters such as 'The Phantom Menace's' Sebulba have been implanted into the original trilogy. Yoda has recieved a CG update in episode one, as well as even more new scenes, and audio tampering. There are plenty of unnecessary changes to the new blu-ray cut of the films but these are just a few notable alterations.

Reason V: Clutter Strikes Back - In the past, every time a new form of physical media has been adopted it has only been a matter of time before George Lucas has delivered us our favorite Jedi adventures in the latest tech. Chances are if you're a fan you likely have a copy of the films lying around in one of the many previous forms if not multiple copies already. It is time to say enough is enough and push away from another altered copy of the films that will end up cluttering your DVD rack more than it already is.

Reason VI: Return of the Disappointment - If there is one thing Lucas could so easily deliver his fans to calm their disappointment it would be a simple higher definition release of the original theatrical cuts of the Star Wars films. With VHS and DVD releases it was annoying yet excusable to release the new versions without a throwback to the originals. With the advent of blu-ray technology and the immense amount of data that can be stored on every disc it was a widely held hope that earlier versions of the films would be included alongside the inevitable new cuts. Unfortunately that will not be the case and all of the fans of the original films sick of constant revamps to their beloved classic will be left without the originals once again.
